RHOV Season 2 Reunion: Recap

The Real Housewives of Vancouver announced that there would be no reunion show this season (boo). But after carefully analyzing last season's reunion and this season's cast, I have summed up what probably would have happened.

Jody: calls Mary names, complains that Robin supports Mary, says Jewish phrases, backs Ronnie
Ronnie: affirms that she loves Mary but will not continue their friendship, talks about Remy, updates us on how many months sober she's been
Mary: calls Jody names, ponders Ronnie's loss of supports, thanks Robin for being good friend
Robin: supports Mary, says some Southern things
Amanda: means to everyone but Jody, 95% of chest clearly visible
Ioulia: makes Russian jokes we don't get but we laugh at anyway

Recap:Season 2, Episode 4

Jody bad-mouthing Mary to Robin

Last night's episode of the Real Housewives of Vancouver, titled "Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged" was an exciting one! We're starting to get a real feel for the characters now. I defiantly think Amanda's going to be a big drama magnet. It's going to be interesting to see how the relationships between the 6 housewives go. Jody and Ronnie are friends, Amanda and Jody are friends, but Amanda and Ronnie don't get along. Guess we'll see.

Amanda's gift from Jody- a tiara. Officially a member of the Royal Army

Anyway, here's the top 5 moments from last night's episode:

  1. Amanda's cosmetic procedure: Amanda's 34th birthday is coming up so she decides to treat herself to a Vampire Facelift with Jody and Robin in tote. The facelift involves taking blood for your arm and injecting it back into your face for a rejuvenated look. At $1,200 per session, it's a choice of youthful skin or rent for the rest of us.
  2. Jody and Josh: the rarely seen son of Jody Claman made an appearance  He left for Ryerson University in Toronto, which brought out Jody's emotional side. It was a really sweet scene.
  3. Mary and Amanda: Mary calls up Amanda and they meet for coffee. Over lattes, Mary tells Amanda that deep down, she does like Jody despite all that she's said to her. Off-camera Amanda seemed disgusted by that. A little heartless? Mary then gives Amanda some birthday gifts. Again, off-camera Amanda seems disgruntled over the gesture. She then invites Mary to her birthday party and receives a "maybe". But Mary does eventually go.
  4. Thunderbird auditions: continuing with the national anthem drama, Mary and Robin head over to Thunderbird Horse Park. On the way, Robin tells Mary that she does have some concern over being purposely sabotaged. Once they get to the park, Robin finds out she'll be doing a duet with a 14-year old singer named Cole Armour. She doesn't seem too thrilled about this, but nevertheless, heads onto the course to practice and sounded great.
  5. Amanda's party: for her birthday, Amanda wore a gorgeous pale pink dress. Heading over to the venue with her boyfriend Kyle, his sister Kari, and his brother-in-law Troy, Amanda warns them that there might be drama. In response Troy says; “I won’t hit a bitch but I’ll shake the shit outta one.” What a gentleman. Meanwhile at the restaurant, Jody and Mary are exchanging hostile words. Once everyone gets there, things continue to heat up before the episode cuts off. Looking forward to seeing how the drama fell through next week!

Recap: Season 2, Episode 3

Continuing from the previous night's drag party, Jody picks Mia up in her Hummer to get to work. Mia's still hungover and unfortunately lacks sympathy from Jody. After discussing the night's events, Jody says she felt empathy for Mary's "mental illness". How kind.

Meanwhile, Mary decides to spend the day with her dog George. While inspecting some sunflowers, she receives a call telling her she got the singing job for Thunderbird Horse Park's Grand Prix event. Unfortunately Robin did not get the gig. Feeling guilty, MAry calls up Robin to invite her over and tell her.

Mary and George
Ioulia and Amanda are scheduled to model in a swimwear fashion show. Amanda has no trouble picking out a few bikinis. Ioulia on the other hand, self-admittedly shy, takes more time finding the right outfit. Amanda's not too happy about Ioulia's indecisiveness, but she cheers up at the fact that she's never walked a runway. Ioulia on the other hand, finds Amanda stiff.

Mary then invited Robin over to break the news to her about the horse show. It takes a while for Mary to spill the beans, and when she eventually does, Robin is of course devastated.

Back at Jody's house, Amanda and Ronnie are over to help bake chocolate cake for Jody's charity Larry's Lunch Bucket. The charity provides healthy, nutritious meals for the homeless. While stirring batter, Amanda talks about the bikini fitting she went to with Ioulia. She goes on to say that Ioulia uses older men to get what she wants which prompts Ronnie to call her a bitch. Amanda seemed shocked by that. She then went on to defend herself off-camera, and said that perhaps Ronnie should point the finger to herself.

Still hurt about being rejected by Thunderbird, Robin invites Ronnie over. Ronnie, perhaps regretting the invitation, hikes up a steep flight of stairs to get to Robin's house in heels no less. Once inside, Robin takes Ronnie to her backyard where a yummy looking feast is laid out. There Ronnie begins dabbing olive oil on her legs and hands, telling Robin that it's great for soft skin. Robin seems off-put by the beauty secret but plows ahead with her discontent over Thunderbird.  She tells Ronnie that she found out the version sent in was not a very good one. Ronnie thinks Mary purposely had Adam do a bad version of the American anthem to sabotage Robin's chance of singing at the horse show.

Meanwhile at Ioulia's, Amanda comes over to get a spray tan. While they wait, Amanda confronts Ioulia about her behavior at the bikini fitting. Ioulia laughs off the occasion to Amanda's annoyance. She then refuses to get spray-tanned saying she's not in the mood. Amanda however goes ahead with it. Afterwards  she asks Ioulia how she looks and receives "orange" as her answer. Off-camera Ioulia says she looked like a "Barbie dipped in orange juice".

Next up, victim #2 of Robin's steep stairs arrives- Mary. Also in high heels. Robin asked her over to listen to the record Adam produced that she thought was horrible. While listening to the record, Mary insists she doesn't hear anything out of the ordinary. Off-camera she says that perhaps Robin is insecure and that she should grow some thicker skin.

Ioulia takes her to stepsons, Chris and Harry for drinks. She says she loves being a stepmom to older kids because she can take them out to drink instead of taking care of them.

Next day is the bikini event. While prepping at a salon, Amanda seems upset over the attention Ioulia is getting. The tension seems to flare down a bit when Amanda's boyfriend Kyle shows up. However, when Amanda sees Ioulia in a bikini she was meant to wear, she's not happy. But once the show began, everything settled out. Ioulia looked great, but seemed nervous. Amanda rocked the show. She was confident and energetic.

After the show, the ladies get together for dinner. While discussing the fashion show, Amanda brings up that Ioulia wore the bikini she was meant to wear. The before you know it, Amanda and Ronnie are calling each other out on all sorts of different stuff. Upset, Amanda leaves to call Kyle. Back in the restaurant, Ronnie expresses her disdain towards Amanda's behavior. When Amanda goes back in, Ronnie asks Jody what she think of what Amanda said. Jody defends Amanda which upsets Ronnie. Eventually Ronnie leaves, taking Mary and Ronnie with her.

Drag Queens and Drama Queens

Unlike the season premiere, this weeks episode went right back to the excitement that we all know and love…or secretly love.

This episode started off with Robin going out for lunch with Mary, and then taking Ronnie to one of her favorite horse shops. Good for her that she is not taking sides, between the two because of their history. Since she is one of the newbies I can imagine that it must be challenging to just jump right in to a reality show where so much of your life is exposed and people are judging your personality. Robin took it upon herself to try to “forgo” the drama that has not stopped since last season, and is giving each ‘wive a fair chance. When Robin asks Mary (who has had 7 top 40 hits in Canada and has a current hit on the radio) about auditioning to sing for an event, Mary seems a little unsure provided already being an established singer. However, in the recording studio they made it look like Robin vocals did not impress Mary, or her dog. Yet it was just done for editing purposes which I believe is unfair. Mary has since taken upon herself stating in interviews and on social media that Robin is actually a very good singer and is very proud of her.

Next up, Amanda! Favorite lines of the night: “Do you know why Mommy likes grape favor so much? Because it tastes like wine” and “This will be you in college bottling beer from a keg” (in which her son laughs hysterically) ….side note : I’m not sure if it is because its 2013 now or what, but I had no idea what that meant when I was his age! Amanda continued saying “I think Momma did that a few times, it wasn’t good” and her daughter’s reaction was a strange look. Although this might not be the norm in every household, it is nice that she is so open with her kids. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with what she said, I’m just looking at the big picture, and I can totally see her as being a mom that her kids will feel comfortable going to with their problems and having a healthy relationship with. I feel like this scene might have been edited to look negative, but Amanda is a very good mom. When Jody arrives to try the drink Amanda (slightly nervous) says in an interview “That’s what you want right?  Jody to love it, you” –which indicates to the viewers, you don’t want to be on Jody’s bad side… lol

Jody brings up the bbq from last weeks episode and Amanda says it is not really her crowd…I’m not really sure what she means by that. It was a gathering to give thanks for all that helped Ronnie’s daughter when she had a health scare. They then brought up Ioulia, saying she reminds them of a Russian spy and not quite Amanda’s cup of tea…hmmm maybe not the best thing to saywe all know how things “somehow” get turned around…potential for future drama based from what was said during this conversation…I think so! However, that’s didn’t happen…at least not yet anyways. The girls met for coffee and became friends.

Love Ioulia and her stepsons! Apparently if you’re going to have stepsons, those are the ones you want! (Her words not mine) followed by “They already old, they take care of themselves and they can drink with me” Sounds like fun!

So back tracking a little to Ronnie and Robin at the store, I admire Ronnie for discussing with Robin, that the bbq might have been uncomfortable for some of the other ladies, but appreciated that she came and was able to meet the other wives in a neutral environment. Ronnie gave Robin a brief indication has to her feelings are with Jody and Mary, but doesn’t try to push them on her. However, it is really hard to see Ronnie talk about her history with Mary, it is upsetting I’m sure because they have known each other for over 17 years, and have had their ups and downs, but hard that they really aren’t seeing eye to eye as of lately. This is something that we all can relate to, it’s hard loosing a friend that you care a lot about. Ronnie says she is a forgiving person, and I believe her. I’m sure people that are new to watching the show don’t understand what happened last year, so the would be very tempted to be quick to judge and take sides.

Over at Ronnie’s house we see her sitting down with her two youngest daughters for dinner. She pays extra close attention to make sure that Remy doesn’t come near choking again, she tells her to take all the time she needs to chew and that she’ll sit there with her until she’s done. Such a sad scene, but she is such a brave woman and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it must be everyday to worry at meal times. It is really unfortunate that really the only chance that we get to see the kind loving “Mommy-Ronnie” is when she is with Remy. However, I feel that this really gives an inside look as to what Ronnie has to cope with, and shows viewers that there really is “good” in these woman and not just wealthy, materialistic drama queens, like some people have said who have judged the show.
